Mangaluru, February 26: A major controversy has surfaced in Mangaluru following allegations of an internship scam targeting students. Maharashtra-based firms operating under the names Vexon and BMP, reportedly functioning near Shreya Sweets in Alake, Kudroli, have been accused of cheating students by collecting huge sums of money on the promise of providing internships.
At a press conference held at the Mangaluru Press Club, Muliya Sathwik, President of the Swastika National Business School Student Union and President of the ABVP-supported All College Students Union, alleged that the firms attracted degree students and fresh graduates by promising a monthly salary of ₹30,000. However, once students showed interest, they were allegedly asked to deposit ₹51,000 as an internship fee.
According to student representatives, suspicions arose when the nature of the company’s activities was questioned, eventually exposing what they described as a fraudulent setup. Reports suggest that at least five students managed to leave after realizing the alleged scam. Several victims, including Srinivas Yenepoya, have come forward claiming they were deceived.
Student leaders expressed fear that hundreds of students might have been trapped in what they called a “chain-based” financial operation. They emphasized that strict legal action must be taken to prevent such incidents in the future. A formal complaint has been lodged at the Kadri Police Station.
NSUI leader Christon also addressed the media, condemning the alleged scam and urging authorities to deliver justice to the affected students. Pritesh Kannemaradka, Sinchana, and Sindhu were present during the press interaction.
