Mangaluru, November 4, 2024: Canara College’s Student Welfare Council organized Can Utsav, a vibrant celebration of Deepavali, the festival of lights, in the college quadrangle.
The event commenced with soulful bhajans and intricate rangoli designs, setting the tone for a joyous and culturally rich celebration. Principal Dr. Premalatha V emphasized the significance of Deepavali as a symbol of journey from darkness to light and ignorance to wisdom.
CA M. Jagannath Kamath, Correspondent of Canara College, shared insights on the festival’s traditions and significance. The college unveiled its annual magazine, “Mangala,” showcasing students’ creativity and talent.
Distinguished dignitaries, including Prof. Anila, Dr. Deepti Nayak, and Sri Gururaj Shet, graced the occasion.
The celebration saw enthusiastic participation from 625 students, fostering a sense of unity and community. The event’s success highlighted Canara College’s commitment to promoting cultural understanding and harmony.
The Can Utsav celebration showcased the college’s vibrant cultural spirit through various performances and competitions. Students competed in a traditional outfit contest, with Mr. U. Naman Pai and Ms. Mamatha emerging as winners. Additionally, prizes for the Goodudeepa contest were distributed.
In a remarkable gesture, the Student Welfare Council donated surplus funds raised during Teacher’s Day celebrations to charitable purposes, demonstrating the college’s dedication to social responsibility.
